The Sinister Minister of Bad Deeds stalked the city five nights a week. His greatest joy was putting on a frightening mask, creeping up behind children, and giving them a good scare. He savored rude acts like tracking muddy shoes across Alabaster Hall and reveled in malicious acts such as dropping water balloons from the Grand Tower onto old the ladies on their way to the marketplace.We never knew why the town elders created the position, but for some reason they felt the Minister’s role in our small community was both vital and necessary.

It came as a tremendous shock to us all when the Minister revealed himself as none other than our teacher, Mr. Owen. He sent a chill through our collective spines when he informed us that one among us would take over these responsibilities upon his eleventh birthday.
