Tunnel of Lovelorn -Digital Collage Our city's now-shuddered amusement park once housed the world's only Tunnel of Lovelorn. Well-intention but bittersweet, the ride was conceived by a city elder whose maiden daughter had returned from the park in tears after being abandonned on the midway by her girlfriends as they paired up with boys and took off down the Tunnel of Love. We have been described as a melancholy people. This may explain the ride's wild popularity. It was not uncommon during a star-filled summer evening to find a great winding queue of wistful young men and women, sighing, lost in sad reverie. Still, the ride gave the lonely a sense of belonging, of being appreciated and cared about by the community. Perhaps this lessened their loneliness and offered no small consolation.
